Kuala Belait - The Brunei-Muara division of Red Crescent Society Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with the Belait District division of Red Crescent Society yesterday held a launching ceremony for Road Safety Awareness Campaign for the Belait District at the Municipal Hall.
Awg Hj Ishak bin Hj Abu Hanifah, the Chairman of Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board who is also the advisor of Belait division Red Crescent Society, officiated the campaign in his capacity as the guest of honour.
The ceremony began with a talk on Road Safety Awareness Programme delivered by a representative of the Brunei-Muara Division of Red Crescent Society Brunei Darussalam, in which he stated that the "Road Safety Awareness Pledge Programme" was the initiative of Brunei-Muara division of Red Crescent Society which was introduced by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) five years ago.
She further stated that besides the members of society, the school unit of Red Crescent Society also help monitor the programme in schools, in order to create a youth community that are always alert of the road safety measures to lessen casualties on the road especially deaths and loss of properties.
The ceremony also witnessed the handing over of the Road Safety Banner by the Chairman of Brunei-Muara Division of Red Crescent Society, Awg Hj Morni bin Hj Awg Damit on behalf of Baiduri Finance, as the lead campaigner, to Awg Hj Ishak, followed by the handing over of road safety awareness poster and pledge cards by Insurance Islam TAIB, as the co-campaigner, to the Brunei-Muara division of Red Crescent Society Chairman, who then handed them to the Chairman of Belait division of Red Cresent Society, Mr Chai Yum Fatt.
A total of 150 pledge cards will be distributed by Belait Red Crescent Society to schools in the district.
Awg Hj Ishak along with some of the Belait division of Red Crescent Society committee members read a mass road safety pledge and took an online pledging at www.bruneiredcrescent.com/roadsafetypledge.
