Bandar Seri Begawan - Recycling Buddies, a local group formed by former St Andrew's School teacher Patricia Lee, donated B$1,600 to Pusat Ehsan yesterday.
The donation was handed over to Pusat Ehsan's Policy and Planning Trustee, Awg Hj Ahmad bin Hj Abd Rahman.
Staff members of Daikyo Environmental Recycling Sdn Bhd assisted in the loading and collection of newspapers, magazines, stationery books, cardboard and used plastic products.
Some volunteers wearing Recycling Buddies T-shirts sponsored by Carsmart Trading brought along aluminum items, used automobile parts and metal containers to the recycling activity.
Yesterday's activity was also joined by two special guests from Singapore, brothers Lucas and Ernst Lee.
The boys, on their school break, are recycling volunteers doing recycling activities back home.
Lucas said recycling activities have been their main interest, adding that recycling helps protect the environment.
Recycling Buddies, formed in 2008, has 70 volunteers active in recycling activities.
The group was formed to promote recycling as a green habit and create awareness on environmental damage to Earth due to improper disposal of waste materials. It aims to educate the younger generation on the importance of a green and clean environment.
Funds raised from past recycling activities had also been donated to the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund through the Tzu-Chi Merits Society, Learning Ladders Society via IA Salon Charity Event, China, Qinghai Earthquake Relief Fund via Mituo Vegetarian Restaurant, to the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports for the Pakistan Flood Humanitarian Relief Fund, and also to the Somalia Relief Fund.
