Bandar Seri Begawan - In honour of the International Women's Day 2013, Royal Brunei Technical Services (RBTS) marked the global celebration by holding a breast cancer awareness talk for its entire staff at its head office in Kiulap.
According to the press release, the event aimed to raise awareness among RBTS personnel on the issues of breast cancer including its risk factors and preventive measures such as regular self-breast examination.
Assistant Secretary to the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group, Matron Hajah Dayang Jaliha binti Haji Momin delivered a talk followed by a sharing session from a breast cancer survivor, Sarojini Veerasamy, a lawyer for Veerasamy Solicitor (one of law firms in Brunei).
According to Hidayah, co-chairperson of the organising committee, "The talk gave us a valuable insight on breast cancer awareness, which is still considered a taboo subject in Brunei. I believe that it is important for both men and women to gain acceptance that breast cancer is real. The sooner we realise it, the better equipped we are at preventing it".
