Bandar Seri Begawan - Major roads leading to the heart of the capital will be closed during the 29th National Day on February 23 from 6.30am until the conclusion of the celebration.
The details of the road closure were mentioned by Senior Supt Awg Hj Azahari bin Hj Awg Besar, the Director of Traffic Control and Investigation Department under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) yesterday at the press conference.
The roads which will be closed include the road in front of Ba'adiah building, Jln Tutong; the traffic light in front of the court building; the traffic light at Jln Hj Basir and also Jubilee park; the traffic light at Jln Bendahara in front of Chung Hwa Middle School, including traffic lights of Jalan Jawatan Dalam/Jalan Kebangsaan; Jalan Sekolah; Jalan Tasek; and Jalan Sentosa.
The purpose of the roads closure is to ensure that the National Day celebration will run smoothly.
Other streets that will be closed temporarily include Jln Stoney; Jln Kianggeh; Jalan Elizabeth 2; Jalan Residency; Jln McArthur; Jln Sultan/ Jln Mc Arthur; Jln Roberts; Jln Elizabeth; Jalan Sumbiling heading to the BSB Police Station; Jln Pemancha; and Jln Residency heading towards the Arts and Handicrafts Centre.
The Director of Traffic Control and Investigation Department also stressed that parking spaces which need to be temporarily vacant a day before the National Day celebration are along Jln Tasek; Jln Kianggeh; Jln McArthur and Jln Sultan; Jln Stoney/ Jln Hj Basir; and Jln Sekolah.
He added, "The Royal Brunei Police Force will not hesitate to take action to move the cars that are parked at the areas stated on the night of February 22, 2013."
Senior Supt Awg Hj Azahari then revealed some of the alternative parking spaces available which are along Jln Kianggeh heading towards Jubilee Hotel towards Subok; along Jln Residency heading to the Arts and Handicrafts Centre; and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Jln Subok.
The RBPF would also like to encourage all participants and the general public to carpool or use buses that will be provided.
The Director of Traffic Control and Investigation Department also reminded bus drivers to only allow their passengers to get down at the designated locations.
Buses carrying participants from Jln Kebangsaan must let the passengers disembark in the area of Jln Bendahara, Jln Stoney (nearby Terrace Hotel), Jln Padang and Jalan Kumbang Pasang.
Meanwhile buses coming from Jln Tutong and Jln Gadong should let their passangers off at Jln Stoney, Jln Tamu Selera and Jln Bendahara.
All buses carrying participants will have to park at the parking area of Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
Members of the public are asked to cooperate and comply with the instructions provided by the police.
