Bandar Seri Begawan - Her Majesty Queen Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard of the Netherlands will arrive in Brunei today for a two-day official visit to enhance bilateral relations.

The Dutch monarch is scheduled to meet with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. A state banquet, attended by members of the Royal Family, will also be held in Her Majesty Queen Beatrix's honour tonight at the Istana Nurul Iman.

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix is due to visit the Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Sdn Bhd Headquarters in Seria on Tuesday, before leaving for Singapore the next day.

Both countries have enjoyed warm and long-standing relations through the partnership between the Brunei Government and Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) in the oil and gas industry, which started in 1929.

His Majesty conducted his first visit to the Netherlands in 2011 since both countries established diplomatic relations in 1984. The monarch's itinerary included a meeting with Her Majesty Queen Beatrix and other members of the Dutch Royal Family at the Noordeinde Palace.

During his inaugural visit, His Majesty also visited the Royal Dutch Shell Headquarters to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the partnership between the Brunei Government and RDS, before proceeding to the Shell Exploration and Production International Centre in Rijswijk.

The monarch concluded his official visit to the Netherlands with a trip to the Catshuis to hold private talks with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
