Bandar Seri Begawan - The Public Works Department ( JKR) under the Ministry of Development in their Facebook page has cautioned members of the public not to get duped by individuals who pose as members of the department reading water meters. The warning indicates that there have been incidents where so-called employees from the Public Works Department have offered special discounts and rates on water bills in what appears to be an attempt to con the consumers of cash.
The method of customer service directed towards the consumer is not considered as the standard procedure to read water meters. Normally, an individual from the department would check water meters through the use of appropriate equipment following which the department would send out the bill. The person who reads the meter never speaks to the consumer for payment.
The department has also informed that payments could only be made through counters either at a bank or at a post office.
Members of the public are also sought, if and when necessary, to ask for identification or other form of proof to confirm the position of a person who claims to be an employee from the Public Works Department.
