Bandar Seri Begawan - As the country prepares to celebrate its 29th National Day a week from today, religious authorities are calling for the people of Brunei to instil the spirit of patriotism in their heart and soul.

Strengthening the nation requires contributions in the form of loyalty to Allah the Almighty and the Prophets, piousness, upholding peace and prosperity, maintaining a sense of belonging, raising the economy, being wise in diplomacy and consultation, being accepting of fate, as well as being knowledgeable and skillful in executing tasks, the Imam said in his Friday sermon yesterday.

Patriotism also means upholding one's sovereign rights.

To demonstrate our spirit of patriotism, the people are urged to hoist the national flag to glorify this auspicious occasion.

We should be in high spirits as we celebrate National Day, and we must also be thankful for all the blessings in gaining our independence.

We should also pray to Allah the Almighty and seek protection for the nation to be free from calamities, and to shower us with peace and prosperity, the Imam added.
