Bandar Seri Begawan - Teachers and staff of Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (PSBSOAS) Religious School, along with their family members, held a Korban ceremony yesterday and distributed the sacrificial meat to needy families and orphans of the school.
The distribution took place at the school's parking lot, where the guest of honour was Awg Yahya bin Hj Said, Belait Islamic Studies Officer, Islamic Studies Department of Belait District, who also handed out the sacrificial meat to the recipients.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Cikgu Md Syaiful Faizal bin Angas.
In her welcoming speech, the school principal, Cikgu Mariam binti Hj Momin, expressed hope that through the activity, they can share the sustenance with the less fortunate in the community.
Two buffaloes were slaughtered and the meat were handed to the recipients comprising 20 orphans and 36 less fortunate children of PSBSOAS Religious School, as well as 50 needy families in Pekan Belait.
Thanksgiving prayer was read at the end of the ceremony by Cikgu Md Syaiful Faizal bin Angas.
Among the objectives of the ceremony were to demonstrate to the local community and the students, the practice of Islamic teachings especially the Korban sacrificial rite, as well as to strengthen ties among the school community.
