Jerudong - Seven selected pre-vocational students from Rimba Primary School and Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School completed their basic training in housekeeping at the Holiday Lodge in Jerudong.
The students were given a short introduction on housekeeping followed by numerous practicals. Their homeroom teachers also gained some knowledge and experience while students underwent training.
Apart from housekeeping training, students also had the opportunity to prepare their own chocolate chip cookies, butter crunch cookies and mammon with cheese under supervision from the hotel chefs.
These training is an initiative from both schools to expose students to jobs in the hotel industry particularly housekeeping and basic work skills.
A hotel representative presented participation certificates to the students in recognition of completing the training. Two teachers from both secondary schools presented certificates and souvenirs to a representative of the hotel as a token of appreciation.
The pre-vocational programme is designed by the Special Education Unit to provide oppurtunities for students with disabilities to achieve their full potential and learn various living skills in an exclusive secondary school setting. Currently there are 22 selected government secondary schools running the programme in Brunei (one in Temburong, four in Tutong, two in Belait and 15 in Brunei-Muara District).
