Operasi Benteras Malam Nabs Law Offenders

Bandar Seri Begawan - An operation codenamed "Operasi Benteras Malam" carried out in the wee hours last weekend at the Gadong wet market and Gadong shopping centre has prompted the Narcotics Control Bureau to open seven case files of investigation under Chapter 27 of the Misuse Drugs Act after urine samples were taken on suspects who are believed to be misusing drugs.

The Narcotics Control Bureau has also detained a person who has failed to report to the bureau in a previous case.

The operation, which involved 80 personnel from the Royal Customs and Excise Department, Royal Brunei Police Force and the Narcotics Control Bureau, began at 12.20am and ran till 3.30am.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Control and Investigation Department of Royal Brunei Police Force also checked on modified vehicles along-the path of the operation while enforcement personnel of the Royal Customs and Excise Department found five cases of offences for possession of cigarettes and alcohol without permit.

The objective of the operation was to carry out checks on illegal gatherings of groups and to curb any activities that are against the law The operation also served to foster ties between the three enforcement agencies and acted as a platform to further build on the cooperation among the agencies involved.
