Bandar Seri Begawan - A 32-year-old Malaysian, Mohammad Nizam bin Mohammd Saharia, has been charged at the Magistrate's Court with unlawful carnal knowledge with a 14-year-old girl at a house in the Belait District. The defendant was arrested on September 4 at about 4.12pm.

No plea was recorded. The court granted the DPP's application for the defendant to be remanded for two weeks for the police to complete their investigations.

The prosecution informed the court that based on preliminary police investigations; it was found that the Malaysian man is an illegal immigrant in Brunei Darussalam as he had no valid travel documents. The prosecution said the police are yet to obtain medical reports of the victim and the police are refer the case to the Immigration Department to confirm the defendant's immigration status.

The court will hear the case again on September 20 at 2pm. The prosecution was conducted by DPP Pg Hjh Hana Molina binti Pg Haji Mohammad while the defendant was unrepresented. The case was heard before Chief Magistrate Haji Abdullah Soefri.
