Bandar Seri Begawan - Mrs Lee Hsien Loong, wife of the Prime Minister of Singapore, yesterday planted a "Weeping Tea Tree" during her visit to the Horticulture Business Centre in Kampong Rimba, Gadong.
She was welcomed and greeted by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Hajah Normah Suria Hayati binti Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri.
Also present was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Primary Resources Development) at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Hajah Hasnah binti Ibrahim. She was impressed with the uniqueness of the local products and made several purchases of local fruits consisting of rambutan, tarap and durian, flowers and other fruit plants.
She also purchased table cloths, wood carvings and locally made biscuits and cookies.
Mrs Lee Hsien Loong also visited the garden tools and fertiliser shop. A flower and orchid lover, she saw the Orchid Tissue Culture Collection, orchid collection stalls and orchid sales stalls. Mrs Lee had coffee and tea with the entrepreneurs and women workforce of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
Displayed at the centre were tropical indigenous fruits and Brunei local handicraft as well as Brunei Halal products ranging from beverages, ready-made sauces, snacks and cookies.
Showcasing their products during the visit were Brunei Wafirah Holding Sdn Bhd and Ghanim International Food Corporation Sdn Bhd.
For nature lovers, a visit to the Horticulture Business Centre will unveil a new world of tropical indoor and outdoor flowering garden plants. It is one of the popular tourist attractions for its species of rare flowers and plants.
