Motorcycle Convoy To Travel Across Brunei For National Day

002aBandar Seri Begawan - Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA) and Harley Owners Group Brunei Chapter (HOGB) will host the Konvoi Kenali Negara Kitani (KKNK) on February 15 to 17 for the very first time.

The KKNK convoy is held in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam's 29th National Day and is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through their Department of Youth and Sports and Brunei Tourism under the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

The event aims to commemorate the upcoming National Day whilst instilling a spirit of patriotism and love for our country. It is also to promote tourism among local and foreign participants joining the event.

The convoy will travel throughout the Brunei-Muara District, Tutong District, Belait District and Temburong District. The journey will conclude in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. They plan to visit various prominent villages in each district such as Kg Keriam, Kg Pandan, Kg Tasek Merimbun and Kg Sibut to introduce and showcase their respective village cultures.

Some 200 high-powered motorcycle riders from both associations will be participating in the event. Invitations were also extended to other motoring clubs in the Sultanate .and neighbouring countries. Other registered clubs include Kekal, Bersatu Bikers Club (BBC), Independent Motorcycle Club (IMC), Temburong Bikers, Kembara and Sport Bikers. Riders from Labuan, Sabah, Kuching, Miri and Kota Kinabalu will also be participating in the convoy. 002

The KKNK convoy will be flagged off on February 15 at the Dermaga Diraja Bandar Seri Begawan by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman. The closing ceremony will be held at the same venue on February 17 by a representative from the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

The convoy will begin its journey from Bandar. Seri Begawan at 8am to Kg Keriam in the Tutong District where they will visit the village and perform the Friday prayers before resuming their journey. The bikers will then leave Pekan Tutong Waterfront after 2.30pm to Kg Pandan in the Belait District and will stay there for there for the night.

The following day, their journey will continue from the Billionth Barrel Monument in the Belait District to Kg Tasek Merimbun in the Tutong District followed by Kg Sibut in the Temburong District where they will rest for the night. On Sunday morning, the convoy will start from Taman Mini Belalong in the Temburong District and head back to the Dermaga Diraja Bandar Seri Begawan in the capital.

The press conference was held yesterday at the Green Room 4 of the Indoor Stadium at the National Stadium Complex in Berakas, and was co-chaired by Joint Chairmen; Hj Rosmadi bin Hj Md Daud from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hj Khairul bin Hj Md Yaakub, Deputy President of PEMODA and Hj Malek bin Hj Hamdani, Director of HOGB.

"Police personnel will be escorting the convoy to ensure their safety and assist in alleviating traffic congestion for road users.

"Members of the public are reminded to slow down when approaching the convoy and take alternative routes if possible. Members of the public and high-powered motorcycle enthusiasts are also invited to the event," Hj Rosmadi said.
