Kuala Belait - Customs officers at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post detained a Brunei-registered vehicle driven by a local male with another three local passengers after a routine check last Sunday.
Based on inspection, a total of six cartons and three packets of various brands of cigarettes were found hidden behind the front passenger's seat.
The offender was brought to the Belait Royal Customs and Excise Department for further investigation while the contrabands were seized.
Last Tuesday at 8.40pm, based on a public tip-off, another Brunei-registered vehicle was detained by Customs officers at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post.
The driver, a foreign male, was bringing with him three local passengers in his vehicle when pulled aside by the Customs officers for checking.
As a result of thorough inspection, a total of 12 cartons of various brands of cigarettes were hidden in the engine compartment, below the accelerator panel and inside a handbag.
The offender admitted to the possession of cigarettes and was brought to the Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Both offenders will be sentenced under Section 146 of Excise Order 2006 if they are found guilty.
