Bandar Seri Begawan - Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah was in the Belait District yesterday morning to officiate the launch of Children's Day celebration at the district's Convention Hall.

In his speech, the Minister said "Alhamdulillah, the children in the country has enjoyed various convenience and support such as health, education, law protection, conducive social environment and welfare assistances given by the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam."

He also pointed out a worrying phenomenon that is happening in the country which includes inhumane practices on innocent infants such as dumping them in public spaces by irresponsible individuals. The minister urged in conjunction of the World Children's Day, those heinous. acts and violation of children rights must be stopped.

The minister also expressed his hopes that the forums which were held in conjunction with the World Children's Day will provide the opportunity for the children to discuss, voice out their opinions and views on the matter relating to their interests and problems. At the same time, the forums could give more chances for adults to listen and comprehend issues relating to children.

"I hope the children who are selected to participate in this forum will benefit from it and have more possible opportunity for self-advancement," said the Minister at the conclusion of his speech.
