Bandar Seri Begawan - Many might not consider extemporaneous speaking as a major concern but for four straight years, many students have gained respect through their great oratory skills in Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (MDPMAMB).
Contemporary oratory has become a necessity for anyone who wishes o advance themselves in the modern world, and that influence is still alive and well for these sixth, form students, who often persuade their audience by delivering eloquently their well-crafted speeches.
It has always been vital to educate the youths to convey information t... effectively, apart from teaching them how to write and learn well. Thus, I MDPMAMB recently organised another oratory competition to see how capable its students are in that matter.
Hosted by the prefects of the Public Relations, the 4th Oratory Competition had Seen many capable and talented students, who could deliver compelling speeches on the fly, portraying even more persona than those of the previous years.
Szeharlaigne Ching Yen Fung, who was crowned as champion of the English Oratory Category delivered a topic entitled 'You Are Your Own Enemy', where she elaborated that "for everything we do, that is what we get. We shouldn't blame anyone else except ourselves for our mistakes".
On the other hand, the winner of Malay Oratory Category Nur Nadiah binti Kifli touched on the importance of leadership.
She reiterated, "Those who have good leadership skills in college will be leaders in real life in the future", and added, "and integrity is very important as it is interrelated to trust."
Norshahrul Azim bin Hj Abdul Rahman, Leader of Prefects of Public Relations 11/I2, in his welcoming speech said, "The theme of 'Student With Integrity Are Those Who Excel' can encourage students to maintain decency, conversation and actions wherever they are".
"The word integrity always circles around this college, as it shows that those who have good moral and character are the ones who will succeed in life," he continued.
In the Impromptu Skit Competition, students were also given the topic without any prepared speech, and the 'Awesome Threesome' comprising three students from the upper six, emerged as the winners of the competition.
The guest of honour was Cikgu Tutty Hyrneeita binti Hj Abd Latif, Senior Mistress (Academic) in MDPMAMB who also presented the prizes to the Winners.
