Bandar Seri Begawan - Muslims in Brunei Darussalam celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) annually, with its main event being held at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar All Saifuddien.
Back in the early 1950s, such events were held in the afternoon after the recitation of verses. Groups of participants were made up of male students, residents and youth associations.
The Maulud Nabi procession was held as a competition amongst these groups, with the judges being placed in hidden spots, where the committee would then announce the winning groups at the end of the procession.
Until today the procession still takes place around Brunei's capital, as well as in the other three districts with participants singing Nasyid to praise the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
