Bandar Seri Begawan - Four matters were highlighted by the Minister of Home Affairs, YB Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman, at the end of deliberations under the Ministry of Home Affairs pertaining to labour matters yesterday.

He said that the ministry along with other relevant agencies have undertaken steps to review the Employment Order 2006 on wage rates under Section 123, which states that for industrial disputes to be settled between employers and employees, the wage must reach $3,000 compared to $1,600 previously for the Labour Department and the ministry to mediate and settle.

It was also stated that the maid's contract has been amended from two years to three years as highlighted on Wednesday.

As for Medical Insurance (Takaful) protection and treatment, it is $10,000 for every worker, according to the scope set by the Ministry of Health, whereby employers have to buy such Takaful for every worker. Currently, there is only Safety Insurance.

There is also a provision for employers to give leniency for employees to perform the Friday prayers.
