Bandar Seri Begawan - Six gamblers who were apprehended by police at a hotel were sentenced to fines by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court yesterday following their guilty pleas.
The dealer, Othman bin Yacob, 43, received a fine of $5,000 or serve jail for six months in default of payment.
Players, 31-year-old Alan bin Kudong, Bakiri bin Hj Mustapha, 48, Sharin bin
Abdul Latip, 41, Hishamudidn bin Hj Md Hussin, 28, and Hj Aji bin Hj Md Noor, 57, were each fined $500 or serve a month's jail in default of payment.
Anti-Vice Unit police raided the hotel in Batu Besurat, Gadong on November 5, 2008 and found the defendants playing a game of chance called 'Katam-Katam'.
Othman tried to jump out the window to escape but was arrested.
DPP Siti Nurjauinah Hj Kula prosecuted the case.
