Bandar Seri Begawan - Over a dozen electrical goods worth around B$12,000 and a total of about B$4,000 cash were recovered from a 31-year-old local, who committed nine car break-in theft cases in the recent months around the Bandar Seri Begawan, Old Airport, Kg Kiulap and Gadong areas.
The House Breaking and Car Theft Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department under the Royal Brunei Police Force arrested Fazri bin Ibrahim about a month ago, and he was sentenced to 24-month imprisonment and six strokes of cane by the court yesterday under Section 379 of the Penal code and Section 427 of the Penal code.
Police investigations confirmed Fazri's involvement. He admitted to the offences of stealing items such as hand phones, laptops, iPads, wallets and handbags, which were left lying visible in the victims' cars.
In view of this, the police reminded the public to not leave valuables and items in their vehicle visible from outside, even for a short time, as this would attract unnecessary attention from potential thieves.
Car windows should always be fully wind up and locked whenever their vehicles are parked, while the car owners should also choose to park at well-lit areas. Should any members of the public see anything suspicious, they should call the police hotline immediately at 993.
