Bandar Seri Begawan - A local man was arrested for the second time in as many weeks by the Narcotics Control Bureau, this time for having in his possession a greater amount of suspected drugs and cash than in the earlier arrest.
Ahmad bin Hj Mahmud was produced in court yesterday after being arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau officers under Section 22 A of the Misuse of Drugs Act. The court ordered further remand on the defendant for investigations:
Ahmad was arrested on November 11, 2012 outside his car in Kg Bengkurong on suspicion of drug activities and was found in possession of a bag containing approximately 50 grammes of crystalline substances believed to be Meth and approximately B$30,000 cash with two others who are now undergoing investigations.
In the first arrest, which was made on Oct 30, 2012, the man was found with $11,000 and seven grammes of crystalline substances believed to be Meth in his possession. The defendant is experiencing gout and spent the whole day under arrest in hospital, thus statements were not taken from the defendant.
Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hussain fixed the case for further mention on November 19, 2012.
