The case handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhana Haji Sudin preferred a charge against 28-year-old Novi of committing murder on a 32-year-old Indonesian woman named Dedah Karmilah Nurazis on July 6, 2011 at Giordano's staff house at Tian Chung Building, Kiulap Complex.

The deceased was the defendant's wife's roommate. Murder is punishable by death in Brunei Darussalam.
