Language And Literature Bureau Signs MoA With Local Authors

Bandar Seri Begawan - A memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed yesterday between 14 authors and the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) represented by the Director, Dyg Hjh Aminah binti Hj Momin in a ceremony held yesterday at Bilik Patih Barbai of the Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas.

Twenty four book topics were accepted to be published by the Bureau, The MoA signing was the third of its kind to be held this year.

The books that were accepted consisted of 12 general based topics; three literature based topics and nine children's storybooks.

The 14 authors were Dr Hj Yahya bin Hj Othman, Awg Hj Alipudin bin Hj Omarkandi, Hj Markandi bin Hj Kuris, Hjh Sariani binti Hj Ishak, Norhayati binti Mohidin, Pg Yusran bin Pg Yussof, Mauludiah binti Hj Md Yussof, Apandi bin Hj Ali, Pg Hj Shamsu bin Pg Hj Kadar, Marsum bin Hj Kamis, Md Sabri bin Sulaiman, Suriani binti Hj Abd Rahman, Hj Abdul Rahman bin Hj Madali, and Tainun binti Kula.

The MoA was meant to protect and copyright the work of the authors and grants permission to the Language and Literature Bureau to publish their work.

Dyg Hjh Aminah in her speech at the event stated that the Bureau aims to publish quality works which will first be analysed by the department's committee members, following policies which authors must comply with "The Bureau also brought overseas specialists to guide editors and translators in the department, and also sent the officials to go for courses to further upgrade their skills. English books are also being published under the Language and Literature Bureau with a percentage of not more than one per cent, as a requirement during the era of globalisation and development as well as involvement of the Bureau in both local and international establishments to give Brunei the exposure to the world," she added.
