Bandar Seri Begawan - Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia emerged as the champion of the Regional Islamic Studies Debate (PENDEPIS) competition against KUPU SB 'A', in conjunction with the 2nd Convocation of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) yesterday, at the Dakwah Islamic Centre.

Present to hand over the prizes was the guest of honour, Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom bin Pengiran Hj Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.

The champions brought home the championship trophy, individual trophies, B$1,000 cash for each team member, as well as participation certificates.

Meanwhile, KUPU SB 'A brought home individual trophies, cash prize of B$800 for each member, as well as participation certificates.

The event saw the two teams deliver their points in the competition finals, themed 'Meningkatkan Kecemerlangan Pendidikan Islam' or 'Increasing Excellence in Islamic Education'.

The competition, amongst others, was aimed at increasing the understanding and perspective of the students regarding issues related to Islamic education affairs; to enable students to deliver their points regarding related issues .to be discussed together, as well as give their views and opinions regarding current issues.

The competition was organised by the Students Affairs Section, KUPU SB. The convocation ceremony recently took place late last month, where the nation saw more than 180 students graduate WITH various disciplines related to Islamic education.
