Bandar Seri Begawan - Some 400 children from Jigsaw Primary School were dressed in red to usher in the Year of the Snake in a special Chinese New Year assembly which also aimed to showcase the Chinese traditional culture to students from various nationalities.
Helen Chin, Managing Director of the school greeted the whole school, "Gong Xi Fa Cai. This year is a good year for business especially with the arrival of the Year of the Water Snake."
Despite rehearsing only a few days ago, the children managed to put up a wonderful performance.
The school's Year Six students started off the celebration with a Lion Dance and the traditional Chinese Fan Dance performances. These were followed by the lantern and fan dance choreographed by Helen and performed by Year Five as well as Year Four students.
Helen also played the drum for the Lion Dance competition, which enlivened the atmosphere of the festivity.
In boosting the students' creative talent, winners of the Best Handmade CNY Card for Year Four and Year Five received their prizes.
The Managing Director also gave away Mandarin oranges to all children and teachers of the school.
