Indonesian Man Fined $9,000 For Cigarette Possession

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court yesterday imposed a $9,000 fine or in default six months' imprisonment on a 30-year-old Indonesian man after he pleaded guilty to being in possession of 31 cartons of cigarettes during a routine border inspection.

The fine was paid.

The court heard that Agus Saeful Ma'arif Nasorudin had denied having anything to declare on arrival at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post on the afternoon of October 30, 2012.

Customs Preventive Officers inspected the defendant's car and found the 31 cartons of cigarettes, worth RM455, hidden in the car. The Customs duty evaded cost B$1,490.

Senior Magistrate Muhammad Faisal PDJLDR Hj Kefli presided over the case.
