Bandar Seri Begawan - A 28-year-old Indonesian woman was sentenced to three months' jail with $500 fine in lieu of whipping or risk serving an additional month in jail in default of payment after she pleaded guilty before the Magistrate's Court in the capital yesterday to overstaying in the country.

Nurhayati surrendered herself to the Immigration Enforcement Section on September 6, 2012 on the expiry of her social visit pass.

The defendant's pass had expired on April 23, 2012 and did not make any efforts to extend her legal stay on or about the date of expiry of her social visit pass.
