Bandar Seri Begawan - The Chief Magistrate Haji Abdullah Soefri PD Hj Abidin yesterday imposed a fine of $4,100, in default serve two months and a week imprisonment on an Indonesian man after he pleaded guilty towards charges of failing to declare a broadcasting apparatus.

Slamet Suworo, 36, arrived at the Sungai Tujoh control post on board a bus from Sarawak, Malaysia at about 9.30pm on January 5, 2013. The bus driver was queried as to whether anything had to be declared by the passengers on the bus.

The driver said no. Customs inspectors then searched the bus and found four Goldsat Digital Satellite Receivers and four Goldsat Low Noise Blocks, some of which were hidden inside a box.

The defendant admitted that the broadcasting apparatus belonged to him. The defendant had bought the items from Pontianak and smuggled it into Brunei although he did not possess the license for the broadcasting apparatus. Prosecuting Officer Saadatul Nazahah Saiful Ashura prosecuted the case.
