Bandar Seri Begawan - The celebrative mood was excellent at the High Commission of India yesterday as Indian nationals working in Brunei Darussalam celebrated India's 64th Republic Day.

The national flag of India was hoisted by the Indian High Commissioner, LD Ralte, as the Indian national anthem was played. He was accompanied by the commission's senior officials including the First Secretary, Kuldeep Singh; and Second Secretary P Harigovindan.

Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India on January 26,1950.

Thus, the date, January 26, was chosen to honour the declaration of independence in 1930.

The Indian High Commissioner, LD Ralte, later read out the address by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, to the Indian nationals who attended the special event.
