HM Receives New Envoys
Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon consented to present Letters of Credence to a newly appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative as well as received Letters of Credence from two foreign envoys to the country. The ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
His Majesty consented to present Letters of Credence to Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abd Ghafar bin Haji Ismail, Permanent Representative-designate of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations in New York, United States of America and Pehin Datu Panglima Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil bin Haji Ahmad, Ambassador-designate of Brunei Darussalam to the Federal Republic of Germany.
His Majesty then consented to receive Letters of Credence from the two newly-appointed envoys to the country, namely, Jean Yves Berthault, Ambassador of the Republic of France and Saul Arana Castellon, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua (residence in Tokyo, Japan).
Following the ceremony, His Majesty consented to receive in audience the newly-appointed Ambassador-designate and Permanent Representative-designate of Brunei Darussalam. 
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abd Ghafar, Permanent Representative-designate of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations in New York, prior to his appointment, held the position of High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Singapore.
Pehin Datu Panglima Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Ambassador-designate of Brunei Darussalam to the Federal Republic of Germany previously served as the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
His Majesty later consented to receive in separate audiences foreign envoys from the Republic of France and the Republic of Nicaragua.
Jean Yves Berthault, 62, Ambassador of the Republic of France, previously served as the Consul General of the Republic of France in Tangier, the Kingdom of Morocco.
He was accompanied by Bernard Regembal, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of France in Brunei Darussalam.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua, Saul Arana Castellon, previously served as the Ambassador of the Government of Nicaragua to the Republic of Korea.
Present at the ceremony was Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II.
