Bandar Seri Begawan - The Principal of Freda Radin School noted that teachers do have their ups and downs but nevertheless they have always managed to overcome most of the circumstances which Allah the Almighty has planned for them all.
"People tend to say being a teacher is so easy and have a lot of free time, particularly when teachers work half day. Yet as teachers, they know that this is not true as having a profession as a teacher is a never-ending job particularly with tasks and commitments."
She spoke at the Teacher's Day celebration at the school where she also touched on the Teacher's Day theme this year "Guru Berkualiti, Pelajar Berinovasi".
This she said, is another motivation for all teachers to be more motivated and determined that will result in not only good students with best results but also best attitude and best discipline as these will all reflect back on the teachers.
The principal also quoted His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's titah on the importance of religion and his desire to see all his subjects, Muslim school children in particular, to know how to pray and read the Quran.
As Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK) has also been made a core subject, she reminded all teachers that although it is the responsibility of a religious teacher to teach the subject, other teachers are also responsible in helping teach all students regardless of religion and nationality, the correct way of living.
This includes respect for the elderly, respect for other religions and nationalities, love for the Sultan and the country, the proper way to dress, to read the doa before studying for Muslims and so forth.
"A teacher's role is very important in the global era and it's up to us teachers to help guide the new generation."
On her final note she expressed hope that the teachers could make plans early to do activities such as Family Day and also Teacher's Day to be organised by the school's Parents Teachers Association next year.
This will further strengthen the relationship with the families of the students thus they should start with the new Parents Teachers Association for the year 2013.
Expressing her pride of having a committed, cooperative and family-bonding staff, she congratulated them for a job well done so far and hoped they would continue to work well together.
The celebration continued with several fun-filled performances and games participated by the teachers.
