Bandar Seri Begawan - In Conjunction with the 53rd anniversary of the Fire and Rescue Department, an emergency response demonstration was held yesterday at the Brunei River in the capital.
Present to witness the demonstration carried out by the department were Awang Haji Jamain bin Momin, Brunei-Muara District Officer as well as Pengiran Haji Abd Rahman bin Pg Seri Indera Pg Haji Ismail, Chairman of Municipal Board of Bandar Seri Begawan.
The demonstration carried out by the Operation D branch of the Fire and Rescue Department featured a fire incident in Kampong Ayer. Also involved in the fire drill were the Marine Fire and Rescue, Sungai Kebun Fire and Rescue as well as the Fire Station.
Around 15 Mukim Peramu Fire and Rescue volunteers participated in helping with the security control and putting out the fire using fire equipment before the arrival of the personnel of the Fire and Rescue Department.
Another drill showed an accident involving a boat carrying tourists. The operation centre which received the information instructed a diving team to carry out the search and rescue operation around the area where the accident occurred.
A team of paramedics from the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital was also involved in the fire drill yesterday.
The objectives of the emergency rescue demonstration were to give an insight into the skills, cohesiveness and efficiency of the members of the Fire and Rescue operations in handling emergency situations.
The drill also tested the operatic in and various machineries and equipments used by the personnel as well as the coordination of the personnel.
Also present during the demonstration were Awang Yahya bin Haji Abd Raman, Director of the Fire and Rescue Department; senior officials, staff members of the department as well as Pengarah Awang Haji Ismit bin Pengarah Hj Naim, Penghulu of Mukim Peramu.
The Fire and Rescue Department will be conducting emergency response demonstration in the Tutong District on March 11, in Temburong District on 1 March 13 and Belait District on March 16.--Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
