Bandar Seri Begawan - Around 50 GT-R owners, guests and media yesterday attended the unveiling of the Nissan GT-R MY13, held at The Empire 'Hotel & Country Club's Bunker's Café in Jerudong.
Unveiling the 'affordable supercar' was the Father of GT-R himself, Kazutoshi Mizuno who was invited to Brunei by Boustead and joined the rest of the guests for dinner.
Prior to the unveiling of the new GT-R, Mizuno-san gave a special talk on the improvements of the current GT-R MY12 to bring about MY13.
In the development of the GT-R MYI3, Mizuno-san believes both ecology and safety are crucial.
Mizuno-san and his team specially took part in the gruelling 24-Hour Endurance Nurbugring Race in May in hope to identify the weakness of the GT-R MY12.
During the 24-Hour Nurbugring Race, Toshio Suzuki experienced a tire puncture at a high speed of 296km/ hand was able to slow down the GT-R safely for an emergency tire repair indicating the safety of the GT-R albeit while moving at a high speed.
Other than that, the body's monocoque is made of three materials (carbon composite, aluminium die cast and steel) for the optimal damping effect in an event of an accident.
Mizuno-san further addressed the question of GTR's heavy weight in comparison to other supercaL. The heavy weight is to be maintained for optimal tire grip in all driving conditions and allows the the GT-R to reach 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.7 seconds.
The GT-R MY13 now has an upgraded engine with a maximum power of 550PS at 6400rpm and maximum torque of 632Nm at 3200-5800rpm.
