Bandar Seri Begawan - Bestselling author and lamed international Islamic philosopher Imran Nazar Hosein yesterday presented a talk at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
Some 30 to 40 people attended the talk entitled "The Quranic Foundation & Structure of Muslim Society".
The Islamic forum attracted an audience mainly from financial Islamic institutions, government personnel, university undergraduates, bankers and students. Members of the audience were enthralled by his take and views on various aspects that included international banking and monetary systems.
Imran Nazar Hosein is a graduate of the Aleemiyah Institute in Karachi. He has studied at several institutions of higher learning including the University of Karachi, the University of the West Indies, Al-Azhar University and the Graduate Institute of International Relations in Switzerland. He lived in New York for 10 years during which time he served as the Director of Islamic Studies for the Joint Committee of Muslim Organisations of Greater New York.
He attracts a vast following from his lectures on Islam in several American and Canadian universities, colleges, churches, synagogues, prisons and community halls. He also participated in many inter-faith dialogues with Christian and Jewish scholars while representing Islam in USA. Imran was the Imam, for sometime, at Masjid Dar al-Qur'an in Long Island, New York and led the weekly mass prayers and delivered the sermon at the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan once a month for 10 years continuously.
He has travelled continuously and extensively around the world on Islamic lecture-tours since graduating from the Aleemiyah Institute of Islamic Studies in 1971 at age 29. He has also written more than a dozen books on Islam that have invariably been received with public respect. One of his books, 'Jerusalem in the Quran - An Islamic View of the Destiny of Jerusalem' has become a bestseller and has been translated and published into several languages. He is also known as a scholar in Islamic eschatology.
Imran Nazar Hosein is also famous for his strong views on issues in the Middle East, and those views are reflected in his writings.
