Tutong - A twenty-seven-year-old Dustin woman yesterday embraced Islam in a ceremony held at Kampung Bukit tidal in the Tutong District.

Nurfariza binti Esai, who has taken on the name Nurfariza bind Abdullah Esai, recited the 'dua kalimah syahadah' in the presence of Tutong Dakwah officers.

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Haji Othman Uking was among the many present to witness the conversion ceremony, which was conducted by the Tutong Dakwah Department.

After signing the official papers, a 'dikir marhaban' was performed by congregants of Lubok Pulau Mosque, following which family members sprinkled scented flowers on the new convert. Later, a doa selamat was read by Sahibol Omar, an imam from the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque. The Tutong Dakwah Department has recorded nine new converts since early this year. The new converts will attend a guidance scheme to enhance their knowledge of Islam.
