Bandar Seri Begawan - The $11.6 million Tanah Jambu Connecting Roadway Project which includes the construction of a flyover bridge over the main Mentiri Roadway is ahead of schedule, it was learnt. Currently, the contractor is fastening 18 concrete beams for the flyover bridge and another 18 more will be fastened by the end of October.
The work for the connecting roadway is 33 per cent complete since it began last December 12, and is scheduled to be completed by April 11, 2014.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, visited the construction site to see the progress.
The visit last night gave an opportunity for the minister to witness the fastening of concrete beams using powerful cranes capable of lifting 300 and 100 tonnes of concrete respectively.
Construction for the flyover began on September 28, 2012.
The project aims to provide an alternative route from a junction in Jalan Muara until a junction in Tanah Jambu as well as provide a faster and more efficient route especially for those residing in Tanah Jambu.
The project is being carried out under the 9th National Development Plan.
Also present during the visit last night were Permanent Secretary (Technical & Professional), Dato Paduka Awang Hj Suhaimi bin Hj Gafar; Permanent Secretary (Administration & Finance), Awg Hj Muhammad Lutfi bin Abdullah; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Planning & Policy) Awg Eddie bin Dato Paduka Hj Sunny, as well as officers and staff at the Ministry of Development.
