Bandar Seri Begawan - It happens every day in Brunei. Parents leave their young children in the car with the engine running for a quick errand. But what thankfully doesn't happen every day is an inquisitive child who fiddles with the gear shaft with disastrous results.
A parent who left his young child inside the car last Monday and went into a popular phone shop - Dee Jay - in Kg Tanjung Bunut, Jalan Tutong, had a shock of his life when the boy got into the driver's seat and pulled the gear shaft to 'D'.
The car slowly moved forward and smashed into the front glass panel of the shop totally shattering it.
The shop's CCTV footage shows the parent hurriedly coming out of the shop to put the car - back into neutral as the shocked child is seen moving back to the front passenger seat.
The CCTV footage that has gone viral on Facebook clearly shows what some parents have to quickly learn.
Luckily no one was hurt but the impact has caused a huge damage to the shop. The parent should thank his stars that the child was too small to reach for the accelerator.
A Dee Jay representative told the Bulletin that they made a police report on the incident and urged parents not to leave their children inside the car with the engine running. "We put out the video on the incident to warn the public not to leave their children inside the car alone with the engine running," he added.
The Dee Jay representative said the father of the child is willing to pay for the damaged glass.
