Bandar Seri Begawan - Students of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School yesterday enjoyed a morning of health and fun in a charity walkathon and carnival held at the school compound.
The occasion commemorated 10 years of establishment of the school.
The guest of honour was Haji Puasa bin Haji Jumat, Assistant Managing Director of YSHHB.
Also participating at the events was the grandson of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, YAM Pengiran Anak 'Abdul Raqiib bin YAM Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim.
Despite the walkathon starting at eight in the morning, 804 students were out in full force. They enthusiastically completed the 2.3 km walkathon that began with a brief warm-up at the school's parking lot before they proceeded to the Mentiri Highway and past several buildings including the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, before heading back to the school compound.
At the end of the walkathon, the activities continued with the planting of fruit tree saplings with the aim to go 'green' within the school environment.
Then the students converged on the carnival which included a reptile show, fun games and a "ghost house".
The carnival will continue until today (October 14) and is open to the public.
The walkathon raised funds for teaching and learning materials as well as requirements of the students.
The school plans to donate part of the proceeds to the Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA), SMARTER as well as PIBG YSHHB.
