Bandar Seri Begawan - The case against Haji Mohd Jamil bin Hj Mohd Ali, the former secretary general of the Survey Department and Puah Heng Yew, a businessman, on graft charges was mentioned yesterday.

However, counsel for Puah Heng Yew, Mohd Shazale informed the court and asked for time to be given to Puah Heng Yew as he could not be present in court due to his bankruptcy case in Malaysia, debts being due to others and is not able to travel to Brunei for trial.

Defence Counsel submitted that Puah Heng Yew's outstanding debts are quite substantial but is able to settle it soon and an application is now underway to get his passport and travel to Brunei for the trial. Chief Magistrate Haji Abdullah Soefri PD Hj Abidin gave four weeks from yesterday for the defendant to resolve his travel matters and make available for the trial by then.

Otherwise, the court would grant the prosecution's application to issue a warrant of arrest outside the jurisdiction to compel the defendant's appearance in court. The court fixed December 11, 2012 for further mention of the case. DPP Pengiran Suzana Pengiran Hj Abas prosecuted the case.
