Kuala Belait - A Bruneian nearly fell prey to several foreign tricksters who offered to sell him antlers of a "rare" white deer for hundreds of dollars after he withdrew his salary from an ATM in Sungai Liang, Belait District.
According to Awang Jahidin bin Adi, the conmen had promised him that the antlers would give him extra strength.
"Initially, they asked me where they could hand in such items. I told them that they would have to go to the Brunei Museum. However, they were very persistent and asked me to head on over to the back of a building to test the strength of the antlers using a knife," he claimed.
Feeling that something was amiss, Awg Jahidin told the conmen that he first needed to get something from his car.
His intentions were to record the identity of the tricksters with his camera mobile phone.
A police report had been lodged at the Sungai Liang Police Station.
The police urged members of the public to be wary of such scams.
The Bulletin has in the past received reports of such tactics, including one where tricksters sold sex organs of crocodiles as an aphrodisiac.
