Bandar Seri Begawan - A flag handover ceremony for the Brunei contingent to the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012 in Penang, Malaysia was held yesterday at the Green Room of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah was on hand to present the Brunei Darussalam national flag to Dyg Juliana binti Jamaludin, the Head of the Brunei Darussalam contingent to the event.
A total of eight runners will be participating in the 42km marathon, 21km half-marathon, as well as the 10km run, in the Penang Bridge International Marathon.
Dyg Juliana, a seasoned runner, in an interview said she hopes that participants will be able to bring home medals and finishing T-shirts from the marathon. She also wished the younger generations would adopt a passion for running as part of a healthier lifestyle.
The flag handover ceremony also included a show of gratitude to RICHCODE Sdn Bhd for sponsoring the youths and supporting their participation in the marathon in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia, possible.
The marathon is set to be held on Sunday, Nov 18.
