Tutong - Gemilang Radio of Persatuan Gemilang Daerah Tutong (GEMILANG) and Mediterraneo DX Club (MDX Club) from Italy launched the Amateur Radio DXing activity (DXpedition) on November 12 at 9.30am. The event took place at Pantai Seri Kenangan Tutong.
The 24-hour operation of the amateur radio had gathered nine countries including France, Germany, Belgium, Romania, Switzerland, Indonesia, Austria, Italy and Brunei. A total of 25 amateur radio operators will take turn in a shift of six teams.
The two concurrent operations are located at the Pantai Seri Kenangan and Halim Plaza Hotel, Tutong District.
The Mediterraneo DX Club was established in 1997 to encourage amateur radio operations. Based on the volunteer's efforts without compensation, the club strives to promote and support DX operations in countries and islands that have limited or no amateur radio activity.
Today MDXC has more than 600 members and is among the most widely known DX Clubs in the world.
Meanwhile, GEMILANG was founded on November 4, 2004, aiming to facilitate and promote the development of leadership, management skill and individual's potential among the youths.
The association's core activities are Amateur Radio (GEMILANG Radio); four-wheel drive (GEMILANG 4X4); Photography (GEMILANG Photo) and Agriculture (GEMILANG Tani). Other activities include religious, social, economic, sport, cultural, traditional and a lot more.
GEMILANG Radio now is the main player of amateur radio in Brunei.
In conjunction with the event and as part of their promotion of the hobby, an 'Open Day' for public visit will be held on Sunday, November 18 at 9am until 5pm.
