Bandar Seri Begawan - In a show of support for the Pusat Ehsan Charity Bazaar, the British High Commission has set up a booth, complete with colourful decorations and a Union Jack, bringing a very English atmosphere to the event.
The booth boasts a London 2012 Paralyrnpics theme, in conjunction with the Paralyrnpics which runs from August 29 until September 9, where Brunei's first paraathlete, Shari Hj Juma'at, will debut at the games as a medal contender in the Javelin event.
According to the 2012 IPC Athletics Official World Rankings, Shari is ranked number one in the world in the Men's Javelin F55 event.
Joining the British High Commission booth was Brunei's first female Olympian, Maziah Mahusin, who donated several items towards the charity, among them, a signed London 2012 backpack for the Raffle draw prize.
The visit to the booth by Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, the Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, was marked with the handing over of a painting donated to the British High Commission booth by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Dato Paduka Hj Shofry bin Hj Abdul Ghafor.
Dato Paduka Hj Shofry created the painting after being inspired by Maziah's involvement in the recent Olympic Games in London.
Meanwhile, to celebrate the historic moment for Brunei and to salute Shari Hj Juma'at's achievements in his other discipline, the shot put, the British High Commission is giving members of the public an opportunity to match themselves against Shari's best distance in a 'Shot Put Challenge'.
At the British High Commission booth, contestants can sit in a wheelchair and attempt a shot put that beats Shari's personal best of 7.83 metres. Here, contestants stand a chance to win great Olympic merchandise.
The Pusat Ehsan Bazaar is open from 8am to 10pm today and tomorrow.
The public is invited to check out the event.
Coupons for food, drinks and games can be purchased at the bazaar.
