Bandar Seri Begawan - An ISO 14001:2004 certificate handover ceremony was held to mark the achievement of Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (BMC) recently.

The certificate handover ceremony was to recognise the significant commitment that BMC has undertaken toward achieving its endeavour in ensuring environmental sustainability. This certification is also one of several requisites that BMC as a SPARK tenant needed to acquire.

According to a press release, Kinya Tsuji, BMC's Chief Executive Officer, highlighted that standards serve as reference document which are then used in solving critical business issues. International Standards such as ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems are available for good business practices for production of quality products and efficient service delivery that factor into consideration the importance of the environment.

Towards this effort, BMC has committed itself to conduct samplings for air emission, ground pollution, water pollution at least once a year, and noise monitoring works every month, not only to meet the standards of ISO 14001:2004, but also the Brunei Darussalam Pollution Control Guideline and the World Bank guideline.

He also added that the certification affirms that BMC ensures environmental sustainability as one of its major priorities, and it has put in place the necessary tools that will enable them to focus on the importance of the environment.

The certificate was first presented to Kinya Tsuji, BMC's Chief Executive Officer by Bureau Veritas's Chairman, Dr Hj Kamaruddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Hj Talib, and later presented to Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Kerma Raja Pengiran Hj Kamarulzaman bin Pengiran Pekerma Setia DiRaja Sahibul Bandar Pengiran Hj Ali, Chairman of Sungai Liang Authority by the CEO of BMC.
