Bandar Seri Begawan - Less than two weeks remain before the start of the inaugural University Cup, known as the UniCup, co-organised by BIBD At-Tamwil Berhad and Institut Teknologi Brunei.
The event is set to commence on January 5 and is expected to run until February 10, 2013.
The matches would be held at various venues including the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, Berakas Sports Complex and the RBRC Sports Club. Football Field.
More than 20 posters and 1,000 flyers were distributed yesterday by the employees of BIBD AtTamwil Berhad to their vendors and to members of the public, respectively, by staff members on bicycles.
The distribution was carried out in major commercial areas such as Gadong, Kiulap and Bandar Seri Begawan.
The flyers are designed to encourage local communities to support the inaugural tournament.
In addition, BIBD At-Tamwil Berhad has also launched official Facebook and Instagram pages specifically to promote the UniCup to the general public.
The name of the official Facebook page is At-Tamwil Berhad University Cup' and the official Instagram page is `attamwil_universitycup'.
Participating in the UniCup football match are major institutions such as Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPUSB) and Brunei Polytechnic (BP).
One of the main objectives of the sporting event is to enhance and foster the skills and capabilities of football among youths in Brunei Darussalam.
It is also meant to foster healthy and friendly competition among the participating youths and local universities and simultaneously, create a sense of belonging among them and highlight leadership qualities through their hardwork and dedication towards the tournament.
During the festivities surrounding month-long tournament, attractive prizes can be won by public spectators with a quiz and a photography competition will also be held to enliven the event.
The photography competition is open to the public and to join, participants are welcome to upload their photos using their Instagram and use the hashtags #ATWUC, #ATWUC13 and #TAMWILUC.
The photos with the most likes will win an attractive prize.
