Kuala Belait - Riadah Hijrah walkathon in conjunction with the new Islamic Year 1434 Hijrah celebration was organised by the Religious Affairs Department of Belait District in collaboration with Belait Mosque Affairs Department yesterday at Zainab Mosque, Lumut.
The celebration began with a mass Subuh prayer, followed by a morning lecture by Ustaz Hj Anwari bin Hj Rawee of the Islamic Dakwah Centre.
Also participating in the event was the guest of honour, Awg Hj Haris bin Othman, the Belait District Officer.
Around 300 people comprising officers and staff of various government departments, private companies, the local community, as well as members of the public, participated in the Riadah Hijrah walkathon which was kick-started with an aerobics session.
Mass recitation of Selawat was led by Imam Akup bin Hj Lamat, Mosque Affairs Officer of Zone 1, prior to the start of the 2.5-km walkathon which was headed by Awg Hj Haris bin Othman and Hj Idris bin Hj Aji, Head Religious Officer in the Belait District, who was also the chairman of the event.
The walkathon started from Zainab Mosque in Kg Lumut, to Lumut National Housing Plan (RPN) Phase 1 and 2, and then back to the mosque.
A total of B$902.36 was accumulated at the end of the event. The collection was fully donated to the Belait District Orphans Fund and was handed over by Hj Idris to Awg Hj Haris.
The event was aimed to instil cooperative spirit and attentive attitude to the needy community, while at the same time, to enliven the mosque atmosphere with Takmir activities, as well as to practise a healthy lifestyle.
