Kuala Belait - The Belait District Office Enforcement Division yesterday issued a compound fine of B$500 to a company for violation of the Minor Offences Act, Term 30, Chapter 12 (1) (d) that is aborting, pouring and scattering materials or items at an empty land from a moving or non-moving vehicle without permission.

The company was found to have dumped garbage at an illegal site. Failure to settle the compound fine will result in an issuance of a heftier fine of B$1,000. Second and subsequent offences carry a fine of B$3,000 or three months' imprisonment.

The Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office has repeatedly advised the general public and owners of business premises to ensure the cleanliness of their surrounding areas and to discard their waste at allocated garbage sites.

The warnings, however, have fallen on deaf ears as violators continue with their irresponsible acts.
