Thought of the Day:
"For many of us, there's a gap between the compass and the clock-between what's deeply important to us and the way we spend our time."

Bandar Seri Begawan - As part of initiatives in contributing towards road safety awareness, the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), a non-government organisation, has scheduled an event to take place this coming Monday.

To be hosted at two school locations within the Brunei-Muara District, it was shared that the event has been named as the 'Road Safety Pledge 2012' and will involve one of the most targetted demographic in terms of raising awareness -schoolchildren.

A press release issued by the BDRCS stated that the event will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, alongside the Co-Curriculum Education Department under the Ministry of Education.

Among what will be scheduled apart from making the road safety pledge, it was further shared, is the distribution of pledge cards to students that will carry the fundamental messages of basic road safety, including the wearing of safety belts, refraining from using the mobile phone while driving, keeping to the speed limit, practising courtesy among road users, and not endangering the lives of oneself and others.

The. School Unit of the BDRCS plays an important role in overlooking this programme in every school as well as developing members of the School Unit into allies as they make possible a student community that is always aware of road safety as part of a mission to shape the Bruneian society into one that has road safety discipline, it was said.

It was explained that the road safety awareness programme is one that was introduced by the International Federation of Red Crescent five years ago as part of its assumed responsibility in education of road safety as implications of road accidents come in the price of not just effecting the economy, but also in the form of psychological welfare of those involved.
