Bandar Seri Begawan - The 29th National Day of Brunei Darussalam was celebrated with great enthusiasm yesterday by the Batu Marang Primary School. The joyous celebration took place at the assembly area of the school's compound.
The guest of honour was Cikgu Hainysah binti Haji Mustapa, the Principal of Haji Mohd Salleh Primary School, Sungai Hanching. The celebration was also attended by Cikgu Hajah Noraini bind Haji Timbang, the principal of Baru Marang Primary School, as well as teachers and students.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the national flag-raising ceremony, which was followed by a performance of the National Anthem.
The ceremony then continued with the distribution of mini-flags to class teachers.
The students and teachers then sang several of Brunei's patriotic songs, such as 'Tanah Airku', 'Brunei Bumi Bertuah', 'Berkibar Bendera', 'Tekad Kemerdekaan', 'Sumpah Janji' and 'Misi Merdeka'.
To further enliven the celebration, the school held presentations delivered by representatives from each respective class with regards to the theme of the National Day, "Negaraku Brunei Darussalam".
Several other fun activities were also carried out, such as the National Day quizzes and also the 'Mengelupis' contest or wrapping of glutinous rice competition.
Towards the end of the ceremony, a prize presentation was held for the winners of the competitions, followed by a recitation of Doa Selamat that marked the end of the celebration yesterday.
