Kuala Belait - The perfectly decorated Barbie pink room of 18-year-old Hana Raihana from Kuala Belait will be featured on the front cover of next month's BHC Magazine after the room was selected as the winner of the coolest kids and babies rooms in Brunei.
According to Hana's mother, Bahrinawaty binti Jamal, a party planner at Muzzy Land, "The inspiration for the design of the room came from my husband and myself We wanted a pink room because of my little girl. As a party planner, I made use of some of the used party materials, and it took about two to three months to complete. Moreover, it doesn't even cost much."
She added "My daughter loves doll, so I incorporate a Barbie dollhouse feel to my design. Sometimes, I also enjoy relaxing in that room."
Commenting on her daughter's room being featured in BHC Magazine, she said "1 am glad that BHC will publish it in their magazine, I am also glad that my design can be viewed by many as this helps to promote my business."
According to the Editor of BHC Magazine, Shaun Hoon, "The judging process was particularly tough as the photos submitted by the contestants were of high caliber." The BHC team has shortlisted 14 finalists; each of them showcasing their unique strengths and styles.
Shaun added that he wouldn't be surprised should any one of the 14 finalists was chosen as the winner. To the panel of judges, the real test was to see whether or not a child would be excited and have fun living in the room.
He went on to add that he was very satisfied with the result, as the top three winners not only passed the test, but also epitomised the very essence of 'coolness' in their own right. Entries for the rest of the final nominees can be viewed at www.facebook.com/butrahome.
Touching on the response on the BHC Magazine, Shaun said, "It was overwhelming. Each month, we printed 5,000 copies and the magazines were all distributed in just two days."
Shaun also revealed that besides the features on coolest kids and babies rooms, the upcoming issues will be on young executives, great outdoors and so on.
"We always plan 12 issues ahead, with different features every month."
The second prize winner was six-year-old Kris Phang, who received a cash prize of B$800 from Insurans Islam TAIB, while the third prize winner was fouryear-old Aedan Md Walee, who won a toy house from Triple Star Enterprise valued at B$695.
The coolest kids and babies rooms contest was the first competition of its kind organised in Brunei, and was supported by Butra HeidelbergCement, Insurans Islam TAIB, Triple Star Enterprise, My Small World and Catalyst. Following the success of its first competition, the magazine is considering to roll out a contest carrying the same theme every year.
